Dalek vs. Ifwhen – Hear Less / No Good Trying COLORED VINYL 180g LP
$12.99
As with all Claire's Echo releases, this release is LIMITED to just 300 copies worldwide -- 200 copies on 180-gram black vinyl, and just 100 copies on 180-gram colored vinyl. Side A of the Dälek/Ifwhen 12" features two tracks as performed by Ifwhen, a NYC band who just had their first US release in late 2007. Ifwhen was formed by Merc, a former member of the band All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors who had achieved a significant level of worldwide attention with their three full length records released from '99 – '03. Side B is the recreation of the same two tracks by Dälek. Calling them "remixes" doesn't quite explain what's happening here. They've ended up with two entirely different experiences from side A. Imagine King Tubby doing Mobb Deep doing Throbbing Gristle and you may end up in the right ball park. Add walls of vocal tracks that could have been the creepiest Bohemian Rhapsody outtakes imaginable and you'd be even closer. These tracks are disturbing and maybe even frightening, though completely intriguing and hypnotic. Powerful and thumping, it absolutely forces you onto one of the heaviest and most twisted rides ever. Don't expect dense layers of noise or extreme distortion. That would have been too easy and obvious.

Electro Group – Historical Contest COLORED VINYL 180g 12"
$12.99
As with all Claire's Echo releases, this release is LIMITED to just 300 copies worldwide -- 200 copies on 180-gram black vinyl, and just 100 copies on 180-gram colored vinyl. It's with great pleasure that we are able to resurrect these tracks and bring them to the masses. If there was ever material from Electro Group that was "most befitting" the Clairecords label umbrella, these 6 tracks are it! A definite "more-shoegazey" quality to them, these early tracks shine, especially having been polished over months of careful studio time after a decade and a half of languishing in obscurity. These recordings are the last EG tracks recorded while Ian still lived in Sacramento (he has since relocated to Seattle, but EG remains an active band, now more than ever). They are also the final EG tracks to be recorded on their analog machine (all future output are planned digital recordings). They are definitely different than the usual material EG fans have come to know, as they are a revisiting of 12-14 year old tracks, something the band has not approached before. Electro Group may have been relatively quiet on the recording front for the past decade or so, but they intend to release new material at least once a year from this point forward. With this EP hot on the heels of their 2nd album (Good Technology) released on Clairecords last year, this outlook seems accurate.

Brother Kite / Plumerai – Split 7"
$4.00
LIMITED TO 500 COPIES on coke-bottle-clear vinyl in clear poly sleeve. An idea was formed: to strip away the pedals and even electricity and release a record from two normally noisy/shoegazey bands. Plumerai's "Vacant Eyes" relies on orchestration and layering of instruments (acoustic guitar, reed organ, violin and bells) to accompany Ezell's vocals. The Brother Kite's "We Can Never Be Friends" is an acoustic track featuring just Jon and Pat and a great, catchy vocal melody.

Abbasi Brothers – Something Like Nostalgia CD
$14.99
Written over 2 years time, these 15 scenes are like snapshots of daydreams, their soundscapes are their subtitles, and the origin is not so very foreign. Yousuf and Amman Abbasi represent a new generation of evocative and epic instrumentalists. Following in the footsteps of the Eno/Byrne and Rodelius of the late 70's then wade through the enigma of early-80s 4AD, arriving in the 21st century with a sound that is familiar and yet all their own. Intensely motivated by the moving image, The Abbasi Brothers have created a new lexicon of music using digital instruments, electronics, guitar, piano and found sound.

Fjordne – The Last 3 Days of Time CD
$14.99

Skywave / Gold – Split 7"
$4.50
Split 7" from the shoegaze masters known as SKYWAVE (pre-A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS and CEREMONY folks) and GOLD. This is essentially the only Skywave release in print at the moment. On the Skywave side they do the original "Seen It All" and a cover of MY BLOODY VALENTINE's "Sunny Sunday Smile". GOLD are reminicent of NEW ORDER but with a heavy influence from MERZBOW and MASONNA meets more modern bands like AN ALBATROSS or XBXRX. GOLD comes thru with an original track "Seekers" and a "remix" of DONOVAN's "Hurdy Gurdy Man".

Sankt Otten – Wunden Gibt Es Immer Wieder CD mp3
$9.99
From the opening track, Sankt Otten make their intentions known. Stephan Otten`s echoing rhodes piano falls over golden drones as Oliver Klemm drapes his elegant trademark guitar through the track like a neon waterfall. The album represents a marked progression from the bands earlier output. It draws upon the heart of their previous forays into dark melancholic trip hop yet discards the form. In doing so the band have managed to present a musical vision that is even more epic, cinematic, noirish and distinctly their own.
Hidden Shoal

Apple Orchard – Half-Steps Toward Bright Skies CD mp3
$10.99
Devised, conceptualized, manipulated, soaked in reverb and realized by brothers Ryan and Dale Marquez, the debut album from AO is here! 12 of the most pensive, melancholic pop tunes the duo has written. Compared to the minimalist lo-fi bedroom pop of the band's early releases, the duo has expanded their sound as the songs are drenched with layers of dreamy keyboards and luminous guitars. Surely for fans of Blueboy, Sugargliders, The Field Mice, Brighter, Sweet William, etc.

Mercurial Rage – Mercurial Rage CD mp3
$6.99
Mercurial Rage's last EP was described by the Minnesota Daily as "precisely the sort of album to get naked to." Yes, really Whereas th. The previous EP drew numerous comparisons to Depeche Mode at their best, but the new recordings welcome flourishes of Primal Scream and Happy Mondays. All musical comparisons aside, this EP really focuses on the spirit and creativity that makes Mercurial Rage the unique force they are.

Ruling Class – Tour De Force 7"+CD mp3
$15.99
Heavily influenced by Stone Roses (especially), Ride, My Bloody Valentine and the like - those bands that defied the notion that 'indie' was, by definition, underground and underachieving - Tomas Kubowicz (Swedish guitarist and songwriter) pulled together some bandmates and cracked together this incredible debut. While its influences are clear, Tour de Force sounds surprisingly contemporary and singular in its vision. As with all new Shelflife releases, this is packaged beautifully and limited to 300 copies.
Shelflife

Kuryakin – Still Here 7"+CD mp3
$15.99
Synthesizer pop duos. What does that bring to mind? Think early Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Soft Cell, Pet Shop Boys. Forthe more underground listener, perhaps Eyeless in Gaza and Fantastic Something. Welcome to the fold a magical duo from Sweden: Petter Gjöres & Johan Norberg known otherwise as Kuryakin - lovers of electronic pop such as Scritti Politti, Junior Boys, & Saint Etienne. But the pair also love 60s Sunshine Pop (The Free Design), bossa nova, and nu-soul. This is their debut, limited to 300 copies and packaged beautifully.

Daysleepers – Drowned In A Sea of Sound CD mp3
$12.00
A year in the making, "Drowned in a Sea of Sound" takes nothing but the best elements of the Daysleepers' highly acclaimed EP's and blends them with some entirely new experimental soundscapes. Their trademark sound of mixing Dreampop, Post-Punk and New Wave styles is still very much present, and at times pushes even beyond those boundaries. Imagine the sounds of the Cure, Cocteau Twins, The Chameleons and Slowdive rolled into one. These 10 tracks touch on a wide variety of sounds and emotions ranging from spacey ethereal drones to blissful up-tempo dreampop beauty.

Pia Fraus – After Summer CD mp3
$12.00
Produced by legendary Glaswegian Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, The Pastels etc), “After Summer” is the 4th proper album from the Pias, and quite possibly their best album to date. It has the well-known and well-loved Pia Fraus sound, quality songwriting, a lot of studio tricks and layers of guitars, synths, and boy/girl vocals. This album will bring huge grins to the mouths of Pia Fraus fans, yet at the same time it is a perfect introduction to Pia Fraus for the uninitiated.

Mar – The Sound CD mp3
$12.99
MAR's first album (The Silence) was recorded in Iceland on the invitation of Sigur Ros, & featured Jimmy from Album Leaf and Samuli from Múm. 'The Sound' was recorded in a cabin in the middle of The Ozark Mountains & produced by Flex Arnason (Worm Is Green, Quarashi) with a completely new band inc. guest violinist Anton Patzner (Bright Eyes) & cellist Zoe Keating (Imogen Heap, Rasputina). A drowsy, drifting affair with whispery male vocals & shimmery strings, but this time with more weight. Serene and lovely! For fans of Múm, Sigur Ros, Elbow.

Dulcesky – Unfamiliar EP CD mp3
$6.99
Sometimes, the best way to jumpstart songwriting creativity is playing someone else's song. That wasn't necessarily the plan when DulceSky set out to cover the mighty Ride in early 2007, but it ended up being the result. When it became apparent that the Ride tribute album would never see the light of day, DulceSky decided to release their cover instead of letting it gather dust. And then added 3 new tracks as well. Textured guitars, shimmering keyboards, and overall atmospheric and elegiac songwriting.
Nueve Music

park avenue music – by Hearts+Horses CD mp3
$12.00
When Wes and Juju got a new piano, up went the mics and out came the music. Flowing pieces of raw improvisation from Juju were recorded and then dressed, bit by bit, by Wes in layers of modular synth distortion. Gorgeous piano music with electronic twitterings for fans of Mum, Bjork, Broadcast, Erik Satie... Features a guest appearance by Gorgon McIntyre (BALLBOY). This is the last park avenue music release, as they transition to "hearts+horses".

Tears Run Rings – Always, Sometimes, Seldom, Never CD mp3
$12.00
For fans of Slowdive, Moose, Shelflife Records... Tears Run Rings features ex-members of The Autocollants, Laura Watling, and both of the masterminds behind Shelflife Records. These pop veterans have abandoned their twee roots and traded it for dense, wall-of-sound arrangements and aggressive distorted guitars -- but that's not to say they have forgotten their pop sensibilities. Layers of boy-girl vocals inspired by the harmonies of 60s groups such as The Lennon Sisters and The Caravelles.
Clairecords

Secret Shine – All of the Stars CD mp3
$12.00
All of the Stars is Secret Shine's second studio album, and their first in 14 years. It encapsulates the passion of Secret Shine's live power pop, but is both delicate and beautiful. They have lost none of the sumptuous boy/girl harmonies and celestial melodies that made their debut album Untouched (Sarah Records) such a classic that is still revered in shoegazing circles today. The band drift effortlessly between epic, orchestral arrangements and sparse, haunting melodies.
Clairecords

Moscow Olympics – Cut the World CD
$9.99
Moscow Olympics take the soul of classic labels like Creation, Sarah, and Slumberland, and breathe new life into that sound. A dreampop/shoegaze/indiepop update for the late 00's. This is perhaps the pinnacle moment of the current movement of likeminded bands on labels such as Fraction Discs, Skipping Stones, Matinee and - of course - Lavender Records. Moscow Olympics will undoubtedly become a classic name to behold in independent music circles for decades to come.
