Brim Liski – Brim Liski CD $7.99

This is Brim Liski. Happy depression. Electronic doom painted over with shimmering vocal layers and symphonic guitar tones. Dark, limitless night music perfect for driving down an endless moon drenched highway. Comprised of various underground producers in the US and The Netherlands, the project started in late 2008 and slowly but surely became an organic musical hydra. The debut release finds itself spanning eras of dark musical passages, polyrhythmic dance beats and deep, moving basslines all in which are inspired by the recent death of love, while also influenced by the blinding light of new beginnings.
Latenight Weeknight

Panda Riot – Far and Near CD $6.99

Six new awesome tracks, dancey and shoegazey and blissfull and poppy and just like the Panda Riot songs you already love - only maybe even a smidge or two better than that. Track Listing: julie in time, motown glass, streetlights and you and me, when you said/ When I said, parallax, 16 seconds. "Their new EP Far & Near is a testament to their talent, featuring six songs that combine classic elements of the genre with electronic touches for ear-catching results" - The Examiner
Mirror/Mirror

Fauns – Fauns 2xLP $18.99

First pressing of 500 copies on black (300 copies) and pink (200 copies) vinyl. Absolutely gorgeous and stunning stuff from Bristol, paying 100% pure homage to early 90s shoegaze (Slowdive, MBV, Chapterhouse, etc) with breathy female vocals, hazy keyboards, reverby guitars. The gentler side of dreampop as opposed to overdriven guitars. Totally blissful, and one of the best albums of the genre in some time!
Deep Space Recordings

Makaras Pen – Makaras Pen CD $14.99

Makaras Pen walks the line between shoegaze and indie rock with a strong dynamic of crushing guitars and delicate female vocals. Doug White (ex-Tearwave) gathers a new group of fantastic musicians to continue the sonic journey he began just a few years ago. Building on Tearwave's sound and shoegaze elements made popular in the late 80's and early 90's by bands like Lush, Slowdive, and the Cocteau Twins, Makaras Pen adds the twists and turns of an aggressive indie rock band creating an electric, intense and startlingly fresh new perspective on these genres. Jeff Kandefer (Daysleepers) provides guest vocals on "Envy and Lust."
Projekt

National – High Violet 180g 2xLP $15.99

High Violet is the highly anticipated follow up to 2007's Boxer. Singer Matt Berninger said of the album in an interview: "I don't think it sounds anything like Alligator, but it's less restrained than Boxer, that's for sure. . . Catchy is not quite the word, but I think this record will be fun to drive to. Hard to tell, though."

Electric Pop Group – Seconds CD $11.99

10 magnificent new recordings that solidify their status as heir apparent to the pop throne once held by Matinée favorites Harper Lee and Sarah Records legends Brighter. 'Seconds' is a study in multilayered, shimmering pop featuring jangling electric and acoustic guitars, bass, and prominent keyboards plus rich bursts of tambourine, strings and other nice instrumentation. Glistening jangle pop genius perfect for fans of Brighter, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Field Mice or Harper Lee.
Matinee

Northern Portrait – Criminal Art Lovers CD $11.99

Highly anticipated debut album from distinguished Danish band Northern Portrait! A triumph for the band that should help solidify their status as one of indiepop's most loved new bands. 12-string guitars, a mix of acoustic and electric Rickenbackers jangle in all the right places. The Smiths, The La's and other bands of the ilk are well-earned signposts here.

Pale Sunday – Shooting Star EP CD $6.99

Brazilian modern indiepop classics with superb melodies and sing-along choruses. Four instantly memorable songs, limited to 1000 copies in custom minijacket.

Nervous Systems – Needs Medicines LP mp3  $9.99

Recorded by Jeremy Scott (MAHOGANY) at Civil Defense (Vivian Girls, etc). Also features Josh Ney (BRITTLE STARS) on drums. "Maybe we're all convinced that our friends write superior songs. But Nervous Systems do. If Boyracer really is retiring, then I'm glad that Nervous Systems are still pounding out short, biting sets of noisy pop songs. Sound Effect for Deafening Silence has made me cry on more than one occasion. And Joe's lyrics are proof-positive that our state-university English degrees are not entirely wasted. Making pop a threat again."
Obscurist Press

Holopaw – Oh Glory, Oh Wilderness LP mp3  $9.99

Recorded by Jeremy Scott (MAHOGANY) at Civil Defense (Vivian Girls, etc). Holopaw musically plays with tensions: lulling strings are undercut by anxious guitars, lilting "la's" turn sinister and demanding. Horn blasts announce a charge that is quickly clipped to a hush. The bounce of "P-a-l-o-m-i-n-e" stumbles towards chaos at the bridge only to be righted by a whimsical Bay City Rollers-esque chant. The last song on the record begins with bright, carillon chimes that stand in stark contrast to the thunderous din that ends the song like a slack jawed finale to a fireworks display. Triumphant "la's" punch through the smoke and ash to have the final say.

Katsen – It Hertz CD mp3  $12.99

For fans of: Section 25, Ladytron, Mint Royal, My Favorite, Annie, Compute. Katsen are an electronic pop duo from Brighton, UK. Taking cues from 50s chic, 70s krautrock and the sharper edges of 80s synthpop, "It Hertz!" is the full length offspring of Katsen's eight-year partnership; the love of the square wave and all things Casio.

Aarktica – In Sea CD $11.99

“Aarktica’s songs are extended reveries, built on loops of guitars & drums & occasional voices. The musical elements hover & circle, float by or bristle with distortion as the songs drift through serenity & trouble.” - Jon Pareles, The New York Times. While In Sea’s title is a nod to Terry Riley’s landmark minimal composition “In C,” DeRosa also pays tribute to his teachers La Monte Young & Marian Zazeela, with whom DeRosa studied. While there are some vocals & traditional song structures on In Sea, there are no guests, no producers, no electronics – no instruments aside from guitars & DeRosa’s antique Bilhorn Telescopic Pump Organ, once used for traveling church revivals & home funeral services in the 1930s.

Various Artists – Claire de Leon! Yearbook '98 LP $7.99

AVAILABLE AGAIN! 8 songs that are, more or less, otherwise-unavailable. They were exclusive at the time of release, and I believe they are all now out of print or still exclusive. Tracks from BRITTLE STARS, BUNNYGRUNT, AQUADAYS (pre-El Perro del Mar; pre-Electric Pop Group), MASTERS OF THE HEMISPHERE, #POUNDSIGN#, KITTY VERMONT, CRUSH 22 (pre-Brittle Stars), and CONGRATULATIONS (pre-Ape School, Holopaw, Con Dolore, Citra Super, etc). Here's where it kind of all started -- before there was Clairecords, before there was Tonevendor, there was Claire de Leon! - a mailorder outfit and underground record shop run by my friend Josh and I, out of his one-bedroom apartment, in a building that is now condemned. We packed up all the inventory and brought it to the Florida Popfest to sell at a merch table, and we used the proceeds to fund this record. It holds a special place in our hearts. Now we celebrate the 11th anniversary of this record with a limited repressing, with slightly-different jackets, and the same fun inserts, plus an extra bonus or two.

Hollow Ox – Pleiades 12" $11.99

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! LIMITED to 250 copies on blue vinyl. Gorgeous post-rock/shoegaze soundscapes that grow and grow, song upon song, until about 3/4 of the way into this release, when you realize that your mind is truly and completely blown. "The Fields Are Cold" is one of the years top 'gaze anthems, IMO. A stunner! "Hollow Ox focus less on the wall of sound favored by My Bloody Valentine and more on the shimmering, arpeggiated guitars and washes of hushed vocals exhibited by the likes of Slowdive or Pale Saints." - Nashville Scene
Hollow Ox

Horse Shoes – The Imperial School CD+7" mp3  $15.99

Horse Shoes is a duo, weaned on The Smiths and Sarah Records, whose obsession with strong melodies and perfect pop comes across loud and clear. Drowsy, unrefined boyish vocals and lo-fi production set the stage for the saddest and simplest three minute pop songs the world has ever known. For fans of The Wake, Field Mice, Hit Parade, or current Swedish pop (The Embassy, Air France, The Legends) this is something you won't want to miss!

Red Channels – Ghetto Cooking CD mp3  $12.99

By juxtaposing their patented, epic dreamscapes with a healthy, head-bobbing dose of dub, classic soul, and melancholy folk, The Red Channels have managed to make the sultry, reverb-laden vocals of Elaina Azari more haunting and beautiful than ever. Add in some jarring, angular guitars, the cooling, atmospheric drones of the organs, plus a rhythm section that somehow manages to make their deep, repetitive grooves sound experimental, and the result is an expansive, challenging record.

"They're like the atmospherics of Slowdive filtered through the enthusiasm of your younger cousin's first pop-punk band, and as a result the whole thing has a happy smoothness that makes it perfect ecstasy accompaniment for people who like music instead of techno."--Vice Magazine. Not matter what, we are positive you will be begging for more.

Acetate Zero – Hesitation Blues CD $13.99

Recorded in Paris during fall - winter 2008, with the advised help of Cyril Guillanneuf who added some fine tuning, Hesitation blues is Acetate Zero driving its way between more tight pop lines, forgotten landscapes and shining desperate losses of separations. The previous album "Civilize the Satanists" is already far away. Since its release one year ago, Acetate Zero shared the bill with The New Year, toured in France and Belgium and let the new songs go their own.

Popidiot – Antenna Of Love CD $12.99

Popidiot is Estonian-Finnish electropop group of two mad scientists Matti Peura and Hendrik Luuk, who have wrote all the songs on the record and made all the arrangements with the guitarist Rein Fuks, who is the important third member. There hasn't been made such a record before in Estonia. It's a nice dance music album, greatly produced and with cool lyrics. It's full of great songs, all killers, no fillers. Name your favorite synthpop, electropop or indiepop sounds and you find it here. Popidiot's sound is heavily influenced by synthpop classics like New Order, Human League or Depeche Mode.

Socialist Leisure Party – Tactical POP for Coffee Cadets 7"+CD mp3  $15.99

From their provocative name to their lean, bright songs, Socialist Leisure Party are a band of a sort we haven't heard for a very long while. And yet, in the subtle but undeniable way they acknowledge and engage with the modern world, they are a band unlike any we've heard before. From the unashamedly romantic declaration that is "Scented Crowbar" to the band's eponymous theme song (a playful echo of Orange Juice's "Moscow Olympics"), this is music to which you can dance, fall in love, plot a revolution either personal or public. But it can't be ignored.

Jumpel – Deuxième Bureau CD mp3  $10.99

Deuxieme Bureau is a further refinement of the Jumpel sound so wonderfully displayed on debut album Samuel Jason Lies On The Beach. Like perfectly fabricated ecosystems, each track is a luscious miniature environment complete with its own micro climate and prismatic inhabitants. The attention to detail in the music is consistently astonishing, rewarding close listening with a good pair of headphones. Deuxieme Bureau is a fabric of intimate moments - some parts woven tightly, others open to the air - and an enticing invitation to explore Jumpel's delicate and immersible ambient micro-pop.

DulceSky – Loose Tracks (1998-2008) Vol. 1 CD $6.99

A selection of demos, alternate mixes, and songs only featured in compilations. 2008 marked the 10th Anniversary since DulceSky started as a living room 4-track demo project. This release anticipates not to be a one-off volume, but hopefully the beginning of many compilations that would dare to even go back again and dig into those forgotten archives of the late 90's and early 00's along with newer songs and versions that don't make the cut of subsequent releases.Open your ears, mind and enjoy!

Seamlessly melding the sonic dynamics of noise and pop with throbbing bass lines, jagged angular synths, searing dark atmospheric guitars and urgent banshee vocals, Autodrone has quickly developed the attention of the UK and American Press garnering universally favorable reviews. Strike A Match is Autdrone's latest studio effort. Their debut album is darker, denser and more experimental, yet catchy and hook-laden than any of their previous work. The album has received a deluge of critical acclaim and has made it onto multiple "best of 2007" lists, thought it was unreleased at the time. Autrodrone have toured both the east and west coast, and have played festivals such as Pop Noise, ATJ, NEMO and CMJ.
