Welcome to the surreal world of Colorsound – the alter ego of a certain Matthew J. Tow. A world where rich musical soundscapes collide with hypnotic beauty to create an immersing experience few will ever forget. "Auspicious Beginnings" is Colorsound's third full length release, following on from '95's "You're Only As Good As Your Sound", which was released on Summershine Records through Sub Pop, a record which earned Colorsound impressive critical acclaim and '98's "Soundtrack For An Imaginary Life" also released on Space Age Recordings. In the CMJ New Music Report, David Newgarden gave the album a "Jackpot Review" describing it as "Perfectly focused, with throbbing drones and vibrant guitar tones, in the Spacemen 3 style of Song writing." Then, Thom Duffy, in his Home And Abroad column for American Billboard Magazine wrote - "One of the most hypnotic and alluring bits of music to appear in recent weeks", whilst in Rolling Stone, Jeff Apter wrote This is somnambulistic pop which is ideal mood music for your next dip in the sensory deprivation tank". Matthew J Tow is also singer/songwriter for Sydney based psychedelic pop band Drop City who have toured extensively in the States with the likes of Stereolab, Yo La Tengo, Stone Roses, Plush and Luna. Drop City have recorded 3 albums, the second of which was produced by Andy Wilkinson (famous for his work with My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab) and which was released on Red Eye/Polydor. A new Drop City release will also be released soon, so keep your ears peeled for that, and which is likely to feature the recent collaboration with the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Recently Simeon from seminal 60's group Silver Apples remixed Colorsound's track 'Little Angel' which appears on the album 'Silver Apples Remixes' (STONE047CD) on 3rd Stone Records. For now though, prepare to lose yourself in the genuinely beautiful world of sound that is Colorsound. A sound like no other and one which will live with you for a long time to come.
