The Year Zero features former members of Sense Field, Reason to Believe, and Sidecar. "Oceania, I Will Return," their debut album, pushes the limits of a four track and weaves together layers of guitars, effects and vocals to create futuristic dream pop soundscapes reminiscent of early shoegaze. The duo create light and ambient rhythms with spaced-out effects, taking cues from early Lush, Cocteau Twins and Sigur Ros. Singer Lili de la Mora's lullaby sighs lilt and sway over shimmering guitars with ebow effects created by Rodney Sellars. The album flows like a fable, the songs building a vision of a post-apocalyptic world; ancient concrete, factories and dirigibles. The listener is drawn into hypnotic, ethereal melodies with mesmerizing lyrics. The music is complimented by the original artwork of Rodney Sellars, evoking imagery like scenes from a film. The album was mastered by Kramer at Noise Miami. Kramer is most known for his work with Low and defining the sound of Galaxie 500, amongst other achievements.
