from creaky wicker folk chant to extreme white noise terror comes the telescopes #4th, seasoned from live performances dated between 2002 & 2004 using unseen forces and homemade/improvised instrumentation.
dark turbines of shape shifting audio druidry and stone age free drone repetition turn over warm flugeltone landscapes of misheard whispers and understated harmony. death rattles pulse driven twangs and broken bones sound their freaky procession. recommended for late night listenings.
on these recordings the telescopes were.. jerry hope (original third wave member); lorin halsall (joined in time for the third wave tour following a theremin dual with stephen on the LPdA album...lorin is also a member of the dust collectors along with jerry); jo doran (joined the group in 1987); stephen lawrie (founded the telescopes in 1986). also featuring randall nieman of füxa [singularity] and tony woodall of los planetos del agua [all the leaves].
cited as an influence on bands rangeing from brianjonestown massacre, the raveonettes and black rebel mortorcycle club to post shoegaze bands like windy and carl, radio dept etc., the telescopes back catalogue has been covered by an even more diverse range of people including hollywood actress and ex member of the belltower britta phillips [flying] and from czechoslovakia the ecstacy of st theresa [the perfect needle]. recent reissues on great labels such as revola, spaceage, midsummer madness and the committee to keep music evil / bomp records have made some of their early recordings available to a new generation of ears, and prompted the NME to declare 'the genius of the telescopes'.
