The Wedding Present was, and is, one of the most influential and successful indie bands in Britain. Active from 1986 to 1996, the band, fronted by songwriter and only constant member David Gedge, had seventeen Top 40 UK hit singles, patronage by the late renowned DJ John Peel, and acclaimed albums released on RCA/BMG, Island, and Cooking Vinyl. Among other notable achievements, the band had twelve chart singles – one each month -- in 1992, equaling Elvis' 35-year-old British record for "most hits in one year." For the past eight years, Gedge called a temporary halt to The Wedding Present, fronting a project -- which came to be called Cinerama -- through three albums, many singles and multiple Peel Sessions. Over the years and albums the sound had changed, in a steady progression from a melodic and cinematic sound back to the darker, roaring guitar style that peppered The Wedding Present's records. Now, bringing a sigh of relief to a legion of cult fans, Gedge picks up where he left off, and reignites The Wedding Present with TAKE FOUNTAIN, scheduled for release on Manifesto in late February 2005. TAKE FOUNTAIN was recorded in Chicago and Seattle with studio icon Steve Fisk, producer of The Wedding Present's 1994 LP, Watusi; Fisk, a prime mover in the Seattle scene, also produced albums for Nirvana, Screaming Trees, and Soundgarden. This is The Wedding Present's first album since 1996's Saturnalia. Opening the album is the first single, the epic, atmospheric, spine-tingling "Interstate 5, which launches the album's mood. Also included in the package are two CD-ROM videos, for "Interstate 5" and for "I'm From Further North Than You." The Wedding Present will be touring the UK, Europe and North America in Spring 2005 with the line up of: David Gedge (guitar & vocals), Terry de Castro (bass), Kari Paavola (drums), and Simon Cleave (guitar), a longtime Cinerama and Wedding Present member.
